Application submitted for Kirkby traveller site

A planning application to create a temporary traveller site on land in central Kirkby has been submitted to Ashfield District Council.

The plans are for the temporary change of use of land off Diamond Avenue for 20 touring caravan pitches.

Grace Machin Planning & Property, the agent for applicant Mr Doherty, said in its planning statement that the application comes after the council issued a plea to find new gypsy and traveller sites because it does not have enough supply.

The statement reads: “The land off Diamond Avenue (the application site) has been identified as a possible location.

“It performs very well in sustainability terms and it is a brownfield site (existing ‘storage’ use).

“The entire site is hard-surfaced, very flat and fenced off from surrounding development.

“It is also within a short walk from shops, schools and job opportunity.”

The application seeks a temporary - two year - planning consent for the siting of 20 touring caravans.
