Appeal for witnesses to ‘nasty’ Mansfield assault

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a ‘nasty’ assault in Mansfield on Saturday (3rd December) evening.

A 42-year-old man was allegedly struck repeatedly during the incident in Woodhouse Road, near its junction with Crow Hill Drive, at about 7pm. The victim was taken to hospital with head injuries and is now recovering at home.

Three boys and a girl aged between 13 and 17 were arrested later that night on suspicion of assault and have since been bailed by police pending further enquiries.

Detectives are now asking anyone who believes they witnessed an assault or any other suspicious activity in the Woodhouse Road area on Saturday evening to contact them.

Investigating officer DC Lee Keeling said: “This was a nasty unprovoked attack where a weapon was allegedly used to strike the victim repeatedly about the head.

“It is fortunate on this occasion that the victim is now back at home recovering from his injuries. It could have been so much worse.

“A number of witnesses have come forward to help us with this investigation, however I am seeking information from anyone who may have been in Woodhouse Road at the time of the attack and witnessed the alleged assault.”

Anyone with information should telephone Mansfield Woodhouse CID on 101, ext 805 3463. Alternatively, they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
