Annual Junior Enterprise event is big success

Mansfield’s next generation of entrepreneurs have sold their own items to members of the public as part of an innovative project.

The annual Junior Enterprise event aims to develop business skills in youngsters across the town and was developed by businessman Malcolm Hall, who owns the award-winning Hall Fast, and partner agencies.

During the project young people are mentored during every stage of the business plan by local entrepreneurs. This year’s mentors include Alison Constantine of Atmospheric Interiors Ltd.

Mr Hall said: “This is a great opportunity for young people to realise their potential and get thinking about business. Not all youngsters will go on to work for themselves, but it’s important for them to know that they’ve all got the right to aspire.”

Berni Dickinson, Director of the Mansfield Learning Partnership who organised the event, said: “I’m so proud of all the students who take part each year, and I’m really grateful to the teachers, judges and sponsors that helped to make it happen.”

The event has also been backed by the Mansfield 2020 organisation.

Chairman Irvin Robinson added: It is important to run events like this to inspire and support young people. When we as a community invest in young people we are supporting the success of Mansfield – Young people are the key to our future and they will provide the growth for Nottinghamshire.

“This is a unique opportunity to shape the future workforce and teach them ‘work ready’ skills and we are delighted to be part of their success.”

Their achievements will be celebrated at an awards evening, on 9th July at Mansfield Civic Centre. Teams will be named winners in a number of categories including Best Product, Best Team Working, Entrepreneurial Spirit and Overall Winner.
