VILLAGERS fear they could be stranded after a bus service linking remote areas was slashed in half, and with reduced stops.

People living along the service 9 route are unhappy that the hourly service is now every two hours.

It also travelled to Mansfield and Mansfield Woodhouse, but now only links Worksop to Warsop, six days a week, with stops at Langwith, Cuckney and Holbeck.

Nether Langwith resident, Linda Knight, who uses the service regularly, said: “We are cut off. It now only runs from Worksop to Warsop and back again, and people in the little villages are missing out.

“We just can’t visit the nice places anymore, and people are really disappointed. I’m upset that we’ve lost this, and I know others are as well.”

The service was recently taken on by Stagecoach, but is subsidised by Nottinghamshire County Council after the depot of the previous provider closed in the area.

The council said that other services are available from Warsop for passengers to carry on their journey.

“A through ticket arrangement is in place so that passengers can buy a ticket from Worksop which takes them all the way through to Mansfield,” said Chris Ward, the council’s operations manager for transport and travel services.
