“On the 22nd May 2015, Amber went on a family holiday to Cornwall with her mother, Kelly, her step father Daniel and other family members. They returned home as planned on Friday the 29th May 2015. On Saturday the 30th May 2015, the family reported that there had been an argument following their return when Amber refused to undertake household chores. At approximately 5pm on Saturday the 30th May, without telling anybody, Amber left the family home. She was reported missing in the early hours of Sunday morning. The police inquiry commenced and an extensive police search was organised, the police being greatly assisted by members of the local community. Tragically, Amber was found on Tuesday the 2nd June, just after 7pm, approximately a mile from her home.

“On the 3rd June, identification was confirmed by Kelly Peat in the presence of DC 1028 Joseph O’ Loughlin on the 3rd June 2015.

“Dr Frances Hollinbury - a Home Office registered pathologist carried out a post mortem examination in this case and she has provided a provisional cause of death following autopsy. This is “1a Hanging pending toxicology and histology.”

“Dr Hollinbury further comments: “The body was that of a white female child, consistent with the stated age of 13 years. There was no macroscopic evidence of natural disease that has either caused or contributed to death. The external examination has confirmed the presence of a ligature mark around the neck. In my opinion, the cause of death in this case is most likely due to hanging. Samples have been taken for histological and toxicological examination in order to investigate potential contributory factors to death. The final cause of death is pending the results of these tests.”

“This matter will now be adjourned pending a full investigation by the police and by other agencies.”
