A Mansfield man has joined the ranks of the Royal Navy after completing his basic training at HMS Raleigh in Cornwall.
Alex Holland, 21, a trainee engineering technician, joined the Navy in March this year and has completed an intensive 10-week course designed to teach him the skills he will rely upon throughout his career.
The course culminates with the passing-out parade when the successful recruits march out before their families and friends.
Alex said he joined the Royal Navy to build a worthwhile career, travel the world and make lifelong friends.
He added: “Training has been hard work, but the end result is worth it.”
The highlights of Alex’s training included the team-building exercises on Dartmoor and on the Rame Peninsular in Cornwall.
Alex will now transfer to HMS Collingwood in Hampshire where he will learn about the Navy’s weapons systems, safety procedures, electrical and electronic repair techniques and the basics of hydraulics and pneumatics.
