They will be joined on stage by a three by six foot instrument named the Gaspipe, which is made of pipework and produces a distinctive metallic sound.

Among the cast are a dozen young people from myplace Westfield Folkhouse Young People’s Centre, who have been preparing in dance production classes for the last six months.

One of the young people involved in Pride is Kelly Gibson (22), of Malhall Avenue, Mansfield Woodhouse.

She has previously suffered with severe depression and said she had found the project a wonderful opportunity to develop her skills and build a better future.

“I have enjoyed the sessions and it has given me a lot of confidence,” said Kelly. I have taken on an assistant leaders’ role within the rehearsals and as a result am looking to study a dance leadership course.

“We are all looking forward to Showcase and performing to an audience. The Gaspipe Instrument adds extra interest as it is something a little different. Its sound complements the performance.”

Coun Liz Plant, of Children and Young People’s Services at Nottinghamshire County Council said the Showcase 2014 promised to be a fantastic celebration.”
