Academy’s new principal

A new principal has taken the helm at Sutton Community Academy.

Tim Croft brings to the academy more than 15 years of education and leadership experience and takes over from Simon Martin, who will now lead on further education for the Academy Transformation Trust, which manages the school.

Tim will be responsible for raising the aspirations, expectations and commitment of staff, pupils, parents and the wider community, a spokesman said.

He will also be leading overall improvements in standards of achievement, teaching and learning to try and ensure that the academy achieves an ‘outstanding’ Ofsted judgement when it is next inspected.

Tim’s most recent role was as associate principal at the Shirebrook Academy, near Mansfield.

Prior to this he also held a number of senior roles, including deputy headteacher, assistant headteacher and head of PE.

He said: “I’m delighted to be leading this inspiring academy and we will build on its current strengths and achievements to take it to the next level on its journey to ‘outstanding’.

“I share the trust’s belief that all children deserve a first class education and that everyone has hidden potential to be uncovered and nurtured.

“I am looking forward to working with our sponsor to ensure pupils have access to the best possible opportunities and experiences during their education.”

Trust managing director Joyce Hodgetts added: “We aim to develop our pupils as individuals and not just learners and we offer a rewarding and proactive learning environment for all our pupils.

“I know that in his new role as principal at Sutton Community Academy, Tim will go above and beyond to continue to achieve this and drive his team to ensuring that our pupils achieve all that they are capable of.”

Tim currently lives in Hucknall with his fiancée and young son.

In his spare time, he enjoys taking part in and watching a range of sports and has a particular interest in playing golf.

In January Chad reported how students at the academy, in High Pavement, Sutton, achieved record results in their GCSE English Language exams.

In a bid to do the best they could, students were undertaking around seven to eight hours of English lessons a week in preparation for the exams - with 69 per cent of youngsters achieving an A* to C grade.

Speaking at the time, a spokesman for the academy said: “These results are our highest ever for the November entry and it is such a huge accomplishment for all our students.”
