Staff and students at Sutton Community Academy and members of the wider community will all benefit from having access to the new defibrillator.

Dozens of people helped to raise the money needed to purchase the machine, with a wide range of fundraising activities, including a tug-of-war, cake sales and a 12-hour sponsored cycle.

An amazing £749.33 has so far been raised.

The community has also helped to support the initiative, with Natwest, Specsavers, Asda and East Midlands Ambulance Service all helping raise the cash.

Principal Simon Martin said: “Sutton Community Academy is the heartbeat of the community with thousands of people visiting the site on a weekly basis either as students, sixth formers, adult learners or leisure centre visitors.

“We pride ourselves on not only providing facilities for our community, but in looking after every person who visits the site on a daily basis. It therefore made sense that a building which is used so widely had a defibrillator located on site.”
