Acacia Centre to have an extension

Councillors have approved plans to build a single storey extension to the Acacia Centre in Annesley Woodhouse.

Ashfield District Council applied for planning permission to enlarge the community centre in order to create more room for Ashfield Community Radio and Media Training, which is based at the centre.

The extension will provide additional office accommodation and will be of a contemporary design in keeping with the rest of the building.

It will be 28 square metres in size.

At a meeting of the council’s planning committee on Thursday, the planning application was unanimously approved.

Councillors said that it represented a good development for the area of Kirkby and Annesley.

Coun Don Davis said that when the library also moves into the Acacia Centre, the facility will be ‘a real asset to the community’.
