THRIVING Ashfield firm Abacus has been selected to represent the district as part of the Made by Britain campaign.
The campaign is searching for the most innovative and outstanding manufacturing company from across the country.
The business was nominated by Ashfield MP Gloria de Piero for their telescopic masts, which are unique in the world and are designed, developed and manufactured in Ashfield.
To be eligible to enter the contest, the product could have been anything from jam to silicon chips, from cars and engines to farming equipment as long as it was manufactured locally.
Said Ms De Piero: “Too many people in this country believe that we don’t manufacture anything anymore.
“We need a manufacturing renaissance in Britain, and the creativity and productivity of Ashfield could go a long way to making this happen.
“Hopefully this can boost confidence in the UK’s manufacturing ability and firms such as Abacus can play a big part in helping turn around the UK economy. This just goes to show that Ashfield has so much to offer”.
The campaign has been backed by Associate Parliamentary Manufacturing Group and was greeted with enthusiasm by the public and manufacturing sector when it was announced.
During the summer recess, each MP was asked to nominate one product that is manufactured or designed in their constituency to be included in an online map which can be seen at www.policyconnect.org.uk/apmg/made-by-britain.
