A devoted American couple are travelling 3,400 miles from their home in New Jersey, USA, to renew their wedding vows and celebrate 15 years of marriage at Sherwood Forest.
Robin Hood-mad Joe and Debbie Tencza will re-tie the knot in the Forest dressed as characters from the famous legend then attend the week-long Robin Hood festival.
The couple, who have attended Robin Hood renaissance festivals since the 1980s in the US, have visited the real Sherwood Forest once before but have a special reason this time to return.
Debbie has just recovered from breast cancer.
She said: “I underwent several surgeries but my wonderful husband Joe was by my side every moment and I am now cancer-free in 2013.
“So this year seems like the perfect time for new beginnings and for our vow renewal as well. Sherwood Forest is the perfect place for a fresh start of the rest of our lives.
“We have visited Sherwood Forest once before and it was a magical trip. At the time there was a display from the Robin Hood Prince of Thieves movie which was so exciting because it is one of our very favourite movies – the song ‘Everything I do I do for You’ from the movie was our wedding song”.
Debbie and Joe’s ceremoney will be conducted by Nottinghamshire County Council’s Registration Service and will feature a special cake. Poems will be also be read during the service.
Said Joe: “We are looking forward to renewing our vows and also going to the Robin Hood Festival in costume and meeting others who also love the Robin Hood legend.”
