40 lorries a day for Newstead park lake

NEWSTEAD Parish Council are worried about a possible choice of route for heavy lorries as part of plans to create a fishing lake.

Improvement work to Newstead and Annesley Country Park will mean re-modelling and partial infilling of the site’s number two lake.

The operation will require importation of about 17,000 cubic materials of inert materials and soils. A planning application came before Nottinghamshire County Council’s planning and licensing committee on 12th November.

A private track at the end of Annesley Cutting, which turns under a railway line, was proposed as the access for lorries to the site, but committee members had asked for more information about potential options.

One of these has proved to be the use of Hucknall Road/Newstead Road, linking with the A611 traffic-light junction.

Joel Marshall, of the county council’s planning department, attended last week’s meeting of the parish council to speak about the plans.

He said there would be a maximum of 40 lorry deliveries a day, timed between 8am and 4pm, Monday to Friday only. But he stressed that none of the options would include the use of Tilford Road or Musters Road.

He explained that his visit was part of a period of further consultations. The results will be reported at the planning committee’s meeting next Tuesday (21st January).

Coun Dawn Adams, who took the chair at the parish council meeting, said: “We had only agreed on the basis that the lorry deliveries would be made via Annesley Cutting.”

Members thought Hucknall Road was ‘totally unsuitable’ because it only had narrow pavements, was a bus route and used by a number of cyclists.
