300 new homes to be built in Hucknall

Although Gedling Borough Council looked favourably on the plans for the site north of Papplewick Lane, Ashfield District Council refused the Co-operative Estates permission to demolish two homes to create the access to the site.

However, that decision has now been reversed following an appeal by the Co-operative Estates to the Planning Inspectorate.

The Co-Op says that the proposed development will provide ‘high quality houses of various sizes and occupancy levels and will see the establishment of open spaces including an ecology park and children’s play area and a new school.’

Geoff Player, director of commercial and investment property at the Manchester-based Co-operative Group, said: “We are delighted with the result of the appeal.

“Gedling Borough Council has identified the site for potential strategic development site and approved the plans subject to the access issue being resolved.

“The new homes will help to sustain local shops, services and businesses to ensure Hucknall’s local economy continues to thrive in the future.”
