Keith Robinson (53), of Birchdale Avenue, was slammed by the judge, Mr Justice Royce, for what he branded “a shameful episode.”

Robinson pleaded not guilty to raping the woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, on Wednesday 11th July 2012.

He also denied two further charges of sexually abusing the woman and of showing her pornographic images on a computer, for his own sexual gratification, both on 11th July too.

However, after almost six hours of deliberation, the jury found Robinson guilty on all three charges.

Mr Justice Royce sentenced him to 12 years’ imprisonment for the rape, nine years for the assault and seven-and-a-half months for the porn charge, all to run concurrently.

Said the judge: “I am satisfied that you were watching porn for some time on that day and took advantage to satisfy your own desires.

“You exposed the woman to pornographic material, sexually assaulted her and then raped her.

“It was rape without violence, but afterwards you tried to keep her quiet.

“This was a shameful episode that has had a profound effect on her family. They have had to move house because of the effect it has had on her life and behaviour.

“They have to wonder how, in the future, she is going to cope with relationships.

“The psychological effects will be very long-lasting.”

Robinson, who was described in court as “a quiet man”, committed the offences in the kitchen of the woman’s family home.

He accepted that he “enjoyed regularly looking at porn” on a laptop and said he was “ashamed, disgusted and very sorry” for showing it to the woman.

The court heard that the offences came to light two weeks later when the woman was having dinner at home with her family.

After the jury had returned their verdict, a victim-impact statement was presented to the court by the woman’s mother.

“This sets out, in poignant terms, the effect this has had on the woman and her family,” said the judge
