Here are 11 noteable people who all come from our town - some you may know already, but some could be news to you.

Rebecca Adlington. OBE. A competitive swimmer who has made a huge splash in the Olympic world - winning two golds in the 2008 games. She also shares the record as the female Olympian with the most medals in Great Britain.

Richard Bacon. A familiar name to most of us. Richard is a TV and radio presenter, known best for being a former host of Blue Peter. He was raised in our town and is known to still return on some occasions.

Alvin Stardust. This chart-topping 70s glam rock star was originally from Mansfield. But some people might know him as his other stage name Shane Fenton or his real name Bernard William Jewry.

James Perch. This professional footballer might be kicking off at Queens Park Rangers now, but Perch is actually from around here.

John Ogdon. A world famous pianist and composer from Mansfield Woodhouse who won a long list of first-place prizes for his work.

Pollyanna Woodward. Best known for working in telly, Pollyanna has done her fair share of acting and presenting. She was also crowned Miss England in 2001 - after being named Miss Mansfield and Sherwood Forest first, of course.

Kris Commons. You might not have realised that this Scottish premier league footballer, who plays for Celtic, is actually from Mansfield. But he did qualify to play internationally for Scotland because his grandma was born in Dundee.

Liam Lawrence. Another footballer. Lawrence started his career at Field Mill, before moving around to teams across the leagues, such as Sunderland, Stoke, Cardiff City and now Bristol Rovers.

Stephen Critchlow. Famous actor Critchlow is most known for his work in the theatre and in radio dramas. He has appeared in radio episodes of Torchwood and Doctor Who.

Gregory Clive Owen. A professional golfer who has won several competitions, including the Daily Telegraph Damovo British Masters.

And not to forget the most famous of them all... Robin Hood, who lived in parts of Sherwood Forest which might have touched Mansfield. Or are we being a bit optimistic there?
