Who are your local heroes?

THERE is still time for you to get involved in Chad’s third Pride of Mansfield and Ashfield Awards, which will recognise and reward the real heroes in our community.

Specsavers is the main sponsor for the awards, which will highlight the selfless work of individuals, showcase excellence in sport and education and also pay tribute to those people who have shown bravery or who go the extra mile to help others.

There are 10 categories in the competition - and already Mansfield BID are sponsoring the Rescuers/Lifesaver section and Chand Indian Cuisine is sponsoring the Child of Courage award.

Chad readers can nominate someone for any type of work they carry out such as fundraising, helping the disabled and vulnerable or caring for an elderly neighbour.

At last year’s second Awards, among the winners recognised for their extraordinary achievements were:

Children of Courage Henry Lowe and Cloe Walters. Cloe learned to walk alone after being born with a rare bone condition and needing several complicated operations. Henry was born with a rare and life-threatening immune deficiency and is known for his smiling face and cheeky giggle.

Fundraiser of the Year was Mandy Clarke, who has worked tirelessly to raise money for Help for Heroes since losing her son David in Afghanistan.

Neighbour of the Year Malcolm Walker was nominated for taking his neighbours to hospital and shopping, and also clearing snow for them.

So who will follow in their footsteps this year?
