Staff at Slimming World held an American-themed day on Monday 1st October to celebrate the launch of their national ‘Time to Lend a Hand’ campaign to inspire their friends and family in the USA to take action to tackle the USA’s obesity crisis.
The 250 employees at Slimming World’s head office at Clover Nook Industrial Estate, Somercotes, Alfreton, donned American-themed clothes wearing blue, red and white and dressed as cowboys for a chance to win a slap-up meal at an American diner. Slimming World’s offices were decorated in an American theme and restaurant staff put on a special menu of buffalo spicy chicken and hot dogs.
Running throughout the month, Slimming World members, consultants and head office staff have pledged to spread the word via Facebook, Twitter and email, that Slimming World’s new online service, slimmingworldusa.com, is taking the UK’s favourite way to lose weight to America, encouraging them to recommend Slimming World to a friend for a chance to win a holiday to New York.
Lisa Salmon, Slimming World’s National Manager, said: “At present, of America’s 300 million population, 204 million people suffer because of their weight and over 12 million children are overweight. A recent report predicted that by 2048, all American adults will be overweight or obese.
“People across Britain have access to Slimming World groups in almost every village, town and city. We reach half a million people in the UK each week supporting them to achieve weight loss success without hunger, guilt or deprivation. So we’ve decided that October is the month that we will launch this new campaign to reach out and spread the word with our friends and family across the pond*.
