Meadowhall launches GIANT 'giving box' to raise money for 4 Sheffield charities ahead of Christmas

The ‘giving box’ located on Upper Level High Street, towards Boots enables shoppers to use contactless payments to donate either £3, £5 or £10 to Sheffield Children’s Hospital, St Luke’s Hospice, Sheffield Mind and Age UK Sheffield.

When the box, which is shaped like a giant present, receives a donation it will ‘light up’ as thanks to the customer.

Donations to Sheffield Children’s Hospital will help the charity support patients and their families this Christmas with the money used to fund life-saving equipment and new facilities.

St Luke’s Hospice will use funds to support people across the city affected by terminal illness by providing them with a Christmas dinner and celebrations at their In Patient Centre, and to pay for PPE and kit for their community nursing team.

Money raised for Sheffield Mind will be put towards providing free of charge counselling and support to those most in need including people who are lonely, isolated or bereaved.

While a donation to Age UK will help to fund the charity’s advice line for vulnerable older people, provide a day of respite support for an older person living with memory loss, or help an older person to continue to live happily in their own home.

Darren Pearce, centre director at Meadowhall, said: “This festive season, it seems only right to focus on supporting the people, charities and organisations who have gone above and beyond to help the people most in need in our community.

“We hope our customers will enjoy reversing the role of Santa and giving back to these amazing organisations that help people across the region.”

The shopping centre has also created a competition to reward someone who has gone out of their way to support the local community this year with £500 to spend on themselves at Meadowhall as a small ‘thank you’ for all their hard work.
