Ahead of a major summer of sport, Amazon has launched a new initiative where purchases of selected sports products will trigger a donation to The Multibank.

Until June, 4 for every three eligible items purchased – including footballs, shinpads and kit – an equivalent item will be donated to The Multibank to help ensure more young people have access to sport.

The campaign comes as new YouGov research shows 1 in 6 UK parents say their children have had to give up sporting ambitions because they can’t afford kit or equipment.

The initiative aims to raise awareness of the importance of access to sport, particularly for young people who may otherwise be unable to participate, while encouraging customers to support donations through everyday purchases.

Speaking on the importance of access to sport, Sir Gareth Southgate said: “Football gave me so much growing up, and I’ve seen first-hand the role it can play in young people’s lives – not just physically, but for confidence, belonging and mental wellbeing.

"Over the years, I’ve worked with so many players whose journeys started in difficult circumstances. Talent is everywhere, but opportunity isn’t always. That’s why I am supporting The Multibank, and its work with Amazon to ensure essential items are available to those in need, helping give more young people the chance to take part and feel included in sport.”
