Hundreds of shoppers flocked to the opening of a new Poundworld store on Thursday as the discount retailer opened its doors at Idlewells Shopping Centre in Sutton.
On the hunt for a bargain, savvy shoppers crammed the aisles, hoping to get their hands on the latest savings on a host of leading brands.
Store manager Mariola Rogowska was delighted with the response, which saw customers queueing down the shop within minutes of opening.
“The opening went extremely well, “she said. “The feedback from customers has been fantastic.”
Yorkshire-based Poundworld, which was founded in 2004, now has 280 stores across the UK. Located next to Heron Foods, the Idlewells operation spans four existing, but previously empty, units and has created 30 new local retail jobs for Sutton.
Spokeswoman Louise Greenwell said: “With more than 5,000 products on sale at one single, low price, Poundworld shoppers can be confident they will find consistently great deals on a huge range of items -- from cleaning products and health and beauty items to toys and gardening products.
“The family-run retailier will also sell thousands of well-known leading brands in a bid to help local people drive down the cost of their weekly shop.”
As part of opening weekend celebrations, customers will be given the chance to ‘Meet The Minions’ in store tomorrow (Friday), Saturday and Sunday. Characters from the new 3-D film, to be released in June, will be on hand to mark the launch of Poundworld’s exclusive £1 range of licensed Minions merchandise.
