National Trust increase access to gardens within Hardwick Hall as part of pilot project
Visitors can enjoy more of Hardwick this summer, thanks to a new pilot scheme that will offer access to the gardens within its wider estate ticket.
Between Saturday 18 July and 2 August, tickets to the Derbyshire parkland and Stableyard area will also allow admission into the gardens of Hardwick Hall. It means that groups enjoying Hardwick's family-friendly Summer of Play activities can also explore the grounds around the National Trust hall.

The trial aims to help people experience more of Hardwick, whether they're visiting for a family day out, a walk in nature, or want to discover the story of Bess of Hardwick and her extraordinary house.
Throughout the summer, Summer of Play offers a packed programme of family-friendly activities. There’s plenty of opportunity to explore exciting zones filled with activities to entertain all ages during the National Trust’s Summer of Play supported by Pokémon.
With garden access now included, visitors can also explore the grounds that surround Hardwick Hall, stroll along the colourful borders, or find the perfect spot to enjoy a picnic with the hall as backdrop.
Sam Palmer, Visitor Operations Manager at Hardwick, said: "We're looking forward to welcoming more people into the gardens this summer. The gardens are an important part of Hardwick's story, and we would like more people to enjoy the space and connect with nature, beauty and history.
“The gardens provide families visiting Summer of Play with even more to explore and spend time together, helping them enjoy a full day out at Hardwick.
“Whether people are visiting with children, meeting up with friends or looking for somewhere the spend the whole day, there’s something here for everyone."
The pilot aims to give more people the opportunity to experience the full beauty and heritage of Hardwick and if it proves popular it could be rolled out throughout the school holidays.
Visitors are encouraged to allow extra time for their visit to enjoy everything the estate has to offer, from the parkland and play activities to the Hall's gardens and picnic spaces. The admission includes access to the Stableyard area with its shop, second-hand bookshop, Great Barn Restaurant, and refreshment outlets.
The pilot forms part of Hardwick's commitment to making the estate more accessible and creating memorable experiences for visitors of all ages.
During the two week pilot, admission to the wider estate will include access to the gardens surrounding Hardwick Hall including the Herb Garden, picnic areas within the hall grounds, parkland walks and open green spaces and the Summer of Play activities, where included with estate admission.
