The fast food restaurant closed its doors across the UK on March 23 and since then a few McMuffin fans have been trying to make it themselves.

Now, McDonald’s has decided to share the secret of how to make a sausage and egg McMuffin at home.

A spokeswoman for McDonald’s said: “We’re not saying it will be as good as the real thing, but for now it’s the best way to keep those taste buds satisfied in lockdown! Share your creations on social using #JustLikeMcDonald.”

How to do it

Use 75g of sausage meat and season with a pinch of salt and pepper.

Shape into a ball and flatten into patty shapes and cook under a grill for 6-7 minutes on each side (or follow the packaging).

At the same time, brush the inside of a metal ring with oil and place in a frying pan.

Pour in enough water to cover the base then bring to the boil.

Crack the egg into the ring, cover the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes and toast an English muffin until golden brown.

Once everything is cooked assemble your McMuffin by layering the patty, egg on top of a slice of American cheese.

To make a hash brown, grate potato into a bowl.

Mix in an egg, season with salt and pepper.

Heat a glug of oil in a pan adding spoonsful of the mix.

Cook until golden brown.
