. Ye-Olde Trip to Jerusalem

. Ye Olde Salutation Inn, Nottingham
This well-loved city centre drinking spot, dating back to 1240, has a claim to being the most haunted pub in the country. One landlord asserted the presence of 89 resident apparitions - terrifying! Photo: submitted

5. The Village, Mansfield
Although punters can no longer enjoy a drink there, The Village on Midworth Street was formerly a nightclub. The building was used as a slaughterhouse in the 1800s and legend has it that a woman named Catherine and her young son were murdered there. 6. Lady Bay, West Bridgford
The Lady Bay had a particularly troublesome time with a ghost in the 1970s and 1980s. A ghostly figure of a man in a dark cloak was occasionally seen in the pub car park, and it was reported that the flickering lights inside were due to an invisible presence. OoOoOh! Photo: submitted

7. Unicorn Hotel, Gunthorpe

8. Rose of England, Mansfield Road, Nottingham
Many scary tales come from this pub, including reports of smashed glasses, voices and apparitions. A ghostly hand has been reported running down guests' backs and the ghost of a chicken has apparently been spotted wandering aimlessly around the mens toilets. Photo: submitted
