Of course, we couldn’t create a list featuring everyone who is famous for living under the shadow of the railway viaduct – but here are some people you know, and some you may be surprised to know, who have lived or worked in our great town.
5. Alvin Stardust
Born Bernard Jewry in 1942, he was known professionally as Shane Fenton and later as Alvin Stardust, was an English rock singer and stage actor who lived in Mansfield as a child. He had a moderately successful career in the pre-Beatles era, but became better known for singles released in the 1970s and 1980s as Alvin Stardust, a character he began in the glam rock era. 6. Stephen Critchlow
Stephen, second from left, born November 16, 1966, was a British actor notable for his work in the theatre and appearances on radio series such as Truly, Madly, Bletchley, The Way We Live Right Now and Spats, along with radio episodes of Torchwood and Doctor Who and is currently appearing in the West End version of The 39 Steps. 7. Wes Dolan
Wes might be known to many as being a busker in Mansfield, the singer/songwriter and musician was born in to a musical family and has made a name for himself releasing singles, "Blue Moon Inn" and "Land Of Fear" Photo: Jane Hilton
8. Kris Commons
The Mansfield-born retired footballer made his career debut with Stoke City in 2000, he then played at Nottingham Forest, Derby, and Celtic in Scotland.
