Our pubs and bars are facing unprecedented challenges as they reopen, with limited capacities expected to be announced.
Here we have a selection of some of the pubs we have lost over the years – a stark reminder that some of our favourite pubs could be added to this list if we don’t support them next month.
Take a trip down memory lane at some of your favourite old locals and then look forward to your first ‘proper’ pint when the doors reopen for those pubs we have left.
Mansfield: your town’s pubs need you.
A message from the Editor:
Thank you for reading this story on our website. While I have your attention, I also have an important request to make of you.
In order for us to continue to provide high quality and trusted local news on this free-to-read site, I am asking you to also please purchase a copy of our newspaper.
Our journalists are highly trained and our content is independently regulated by IPSO to some of the most rigorous standards in the world. But being your eyes and ears comes at a price. So we need your support more than ever to buy our newspapers during this crisis.
With the coronavirus lockdown having a major impact on many of our local valued advertisers - and consequently the advertising that we receive - we are more reliant than ever on you helping us to provide you with news and information by buying a copy of our newspaper.
Thank you
Nancy Fielder, editor

9. The Flamingo
The Flamingo on Oak Tree Lane was very popular when it opened in the 60s, until its closure, with fond memories of disco nights on a Sunday and karaoke on a Friday night. The site is now occupied by Farmfoods. Photo: Chad

10. Old Eight Bells
The Old Eight Bells, later known as O'Neill's, followed by 53 Degrees and Urban Cherry for our younger readers. In its hey day it would be packed all weekend. The property on Church Street is currently vacant . Photo: Chad

11. Portland Arms
The pub on Albert Street was full of life in the 70s and 80s. The Grade-II listed building has been empty for some time. Photo: Barbara Roberts
