With politicians and town planners changing the face of the historic town, we posted the question on the Chad’s Facebook page.
It came after recent news mooted that former Mansfield department store Beales could be set to become a civic hub, and a car park on Queen Street, may be turned into a Covid memorial park.
Scores of Chad readers came back with a whole host ideas for what they wanted or did not want to see happen in their town.
Here are just a few of the passionate pleas for everything for more shops, cafes and restaurants, to an ice rink and more children’s entertainment, and rejuvenating the market.

The days of conventional shops has gone. We can get exactly what we want to our doors without leaving your house." Sara Spalding Go look at Chesterfield and you’ll see where Mansfield is going wrong! It has decent shops of all price ranges and varieties, empty buildings aren’t left to go to rack and ruin, they look inviting and ready to use, all the old buildings are well looked after and not just the ground floor, from floor to roof, there is summer seating in sun traps with parking for the ice cream van, but there is a shaded area too for those who need it, there’s room for a summer funfair or mini water park and beach, there’s entertainment spots for buskers dotted around, it has a seaside vibe and is always rammed!" 7. Mansfield plans are they a waste of money?
Elain Rhodes: "What a waste of money. We need some decent shops." Carol Hewson agreed "What a waste of money" and Perran Cornwall added "Why bother asking the people who live in Mansfield, because nobody listens anyway. 8. Bring back big department stores?
Readers want bigger shops and department stores: Louise Cresswell said "What about a Matalan in the old BHS store" (Pictured). Sheila Baker adds "We definitely want a Debenhams, in fact any shop.
