The Chad reported how Warop-born mum Laura Faulkner planned to walk 100 miles with her baby in tow to raise money for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) awareness month in September.

Laura has now finished the 100-mile challenge, smashing her fundraising and time targets along the way.

As well as finishing the mileage on September 25, five days earlier than planned, she also ended up raising £630, over six times the amount of her target.

The money will go to Verity, a charity that shares the truth about the condition and improves the lives of women living with PCOS.

PCOS is one of the most common causes of infertility and affects one in 10 women of childbearing age, leading to difficulty getting pregnant and potentially additional health problems later in life.

Laura, who now lives in Preston, said: “I'm so pleased with the huge amount of money I have raised for a charity so close to my heart, and having new members join my group is fantastic as these ladies now have a safe place to talk and get help with their PCOS symptoms.

"I'm also so proud to become more heavily involved with the charity now as they do invaluable work and really are making a huge difference and improving the quality of life for a lot of ladies.

"The publicity has led to over 20 new members in my Verity self help groups, which is amazing, and I've been promoted to volunteer information production manager for the charity, in charge of blog and web content which I'm very proud of and excited about."

As well as the 100-mile walk, Laura also ran a raffle with another group leader as a fundraiser and raised an additional £122.

She added: “Unfortunately due to being in a local lockdown in Preston for the past eight weeks I haven't been able to go back home to Warsop, so I didn’t manage to do any walks there.

"But I'd like to do it all over again next September so fingers crossed I can do some walks there next year.”
