Mansfield leisure centres launch weight loss medication support programme

Leisure Solutions Community Trust (LSCT) has launched a new support programme across its leisure centres in Mansfield, offering tailored guidance for customers using GLP-1 weight loss medications, such as Ozempic and Semaglutide.

The programme aligns with new research from the leisure industry association, ukactive, and one of the global leaders in group fitness, Les Mills.

Their research has highlighted the importance of regular exercise and resistance training for people taking GLP-1 medications.

Each of the LSCT centres offering the new support programme will have a fitness instructor specifically trained in how to support people taking GLP-1 medication.

They will offer bespoke guidance, focusing on building strength and supporting healthy weight loss.

The leisure centres offering these sessions are Oak Tree Leisure Centre, Warsop Health Hub, the Rebecca Adlington Leisure Centre and Water Meadows Leisure Complex.

Sarah Berne, health and wellbeing manager for Serco Leisure, which operates the centres in partnership with LSCT, said: “With increasing numbers of people using weight loss medications, the programme aims to help customers lose weight safely while protecting muscle mass.

"While GLP-1 medications can support weight loss, exercise remains essential, and this programme ensures customers have access to qualified instructors who can help them maintain strength, confidence and overall health.”

Coun Andy Burgin (Lab), portfolio holder for the environment at Mansfield Council, added: "Losing weight and feeling healthier has clear benefits, but it's really important to make sure that this is done safely and can be sustained.

"These classes are designed to help people to build fitness and strength to help them to stay in better shape for longer.

"What's more, the classes can help participants to get out, meet new people and boost your mental wellbeing."
