Mansfield hospital mental health team wins national award
A Mansfield-based hospital has scooped a national award and been named team of the year in recognition of the difference it is making to the lives of those hospitalised with mental health needs.
Organised by Cygnet Health Care, one of the UK’s largest independent providers of specialised mental health services, the Mental Health Team of the Year is awarded to the service who consistently makes a positive difference to the individuals requiring support with their mental health.
Cygnet Hospital Sherwood, on Rufford Colliery Lane, received the accolade in recognition of its exceptional commitment to improving the lives of people struggling with mental illness.
Jeff Ashby, hospital manager, said: “I couldn’t be more proud of the team.

"This is a remarkable achievement at any stage, but to have achieved this less than three years since opening is beyond anything we could have hoped for.
“I’m so pleased that the excellent care provided by the team at Cygnet Hospital Sherwood has been recognised in this way.
"Coming so soon after being rated ‘good’ overall by the Care Quality Commission, achieving Triangle of Care Accreditation and the highest possible rating in NHS Wales’ Quality Assurance Rating makes it even more special.”
The team were presented with the award by Cygnet Health Care chief executive Stephen Firn.
He said: “The Sherwood team is an exceptional multidisciplinary team whose commitment to education, research and workforce development has strengthened standards across the service.
“They champion the integration of physical and mental healthcare through joint clinical reviews and specialist training, improving outcomes for long-stay psychiatric patients.
"Dedicated to reducing health inequalities, they deliver personalised care and work closely with NHS partners, social services and community teams to support rehabilitation and discharge.
“The team demonstrates clinical excellence through quality improvement initiatives, positive external evaluations and data-driven service enhancement.
"They also prioritise staff wellbeing, mentorship and carer involvement while actively sharing best practice through research, publications and education.”
Prof Tony Romero, Cygnet chief executive, added: "These awards are a testament to the achievements of our dedicated doctors and their teams.
"Their compassionate and value-driven approach makes a profound difference in the lives of the people we support."
Cygnet Hospital Sherwood is a state-of-the-art PICU and acute hospital for men and features three wards, including a 12-bed PICU ward and two 16 bed acute wards.
