King's Mill Hospital patients rate site as '100% clean'

The Patient Led Assessment of the Care Environment (PLACE) review found that Sherwood Forest Hospitals, which runs King’s Mill in Sutton, came out well above the national average on its cleanliness.

The survey found that 100 per cent of patients found King’s Mill was clean, while 99.86 per cent viewed Mansfield Community Hospital as having top standards.

Newark Hospital was also viewed as 99.35 per cent clean, with all three hospitals coming out well above the national average of 98.06 per cent.

Patients were asked to review the hospitals on its cleanliness, food hygiene and quality, privacy, general appearance and for its dementia and disability safety.

The Sutton hospital came out above the national average in all sections of the survey, including 99.81 per cent of patients who viewed that the site has top quality maintenance, condition and appearance – above the 93.37 per cent average.

Patients also found that the hospital was more dementia and disability friendly than the national average, while its privacy was also praised.

Mansfield Community Hospital, on Sutton Road, was viewed in just a high standard – attaining higher grading than the national average in all aspects, including 98.94 per cent for its appearance and 95.06 per cent for its privacy – 11 per cent higher than the national average.

Ben Widdowson, Sherwood Forest Hospitals associate director of estates and facilities, praised the survey results.

He said: “This assessment provides an invaluable insight into how people rate their experience at our hospitals.

“The scores achieved are a tribute to our staff and teams who work hard to maintain such high standards.

“It is pleasing to see that we have improved our scores in the dementia care category of the survey, as we have made many positive changes across our sites to ensure that our environments are as dementia friendly as possible, with different flooring and colour coded areas.

“It was really encouraging to see us scoring so highly across the board and see the many positive comments that were made about our hospitals.”
