King's Mill Hospital deny ‘social media rumours’ of confirmed coronavirus case

Bosses at King's Mill Hospital have addressed rumours on social media that there has been a confirmed coronavirus case at the site.

Several Facebook posts stated yesterday (March 11), stated that a case had been confirmed at the hospital, which the trust that runs the site has denied.

One post said: “I've just spoken to a staff member in the lift who's just told me that parts of the hospital are being cordoned off due to them having Coronavirus.”

Another added: “My mum is a nurse at King's Mill Hospital.

"Two patients have just been diagnosed with coronavirus on the ward she's working on.

"We need to start praying."

However, the hospital has denied that there is a case of coronavirus, and added such posts were causing "unnecessary panic".

In a statement on Sherwood Forest Hospital NHS Foundation Trust’s Facebook Page, a spokesperson said: “We are aware of rumours on social media of confirmed coronavirus cases at King's Mill Hospital.

“Please be assured that this is not true.

“These messages can cause unnecessary panic and confusion, please help us by not sharing them.

“The only source for the latest accurate information on tests and cases is the Department for Health and Social Care’s website.

Five cases of coronavirus in Nottinghamshire have been confirmed by Public Health England, with one of the victims in Southwell.

The World Health Organisation has declared the coronavirus outbreak as a ‘pandemic’, as the number of cases in the UK soars to 591 today – 134 more than yesterday.
