This means that though the areas were kept in Tier 3 in the December 16 review, they may still have a chance to be moved down a week later on December 23.
That is a week earlier than previously promised by the Government, which initially committed to a review every 14 days.

Addressing the House of Commons today, following a Government meeting yesterday, Mr Hancock said just three areas were being moved down a tier – Bristol and North Somerset, which are being moved from Tier 3 to Tier 2, and Herefordshire, which is moving from Tier 2 to Tier 1.
He said Tier 3 restrictions were being introduced ‘across a much wider area’ of the east and southeast of England.
Mansfield has been subjected to Tier 3 lockdown measures, where pubs and restaurants are only allowed to operate as a takeaway and households are banned from mixing, since the national lockdown ended.

Hide AdToday in Parliament Colne Valley MP Jason McCartney said his constituency had seen a fall in infection rates to under 100 per 100,000 which was below the English average and said he thought there was a strong case for it to be brought down to Tier 2.
He said: "I appreciate the secretary of state wants to be cautious, but can he tell me when will the next review be and what more do my constituents need to do to come out of Tier 3 ?"
Mr Hancock answered: "Legally there is a review every two weeks but in practice we review every week.
"And I won't wait a week longer than necessary to get places out of Tier 3 if we can safely do that and to people across the Colne Valley I would say firstly the reduction in rates has been impressive but we are not there yet. “The pressure on the NHS has reduced but is still significant.”
