But COVID-19 continues to prove much more deadly for older people, especially those who are aged 70 and above.

Public Health England does not publish the age of every person with coronavirus to have died, but it does break down the deaths by age category.

Of the 4,494 coronavirus patients confirmed to have died across England as of yesterday, Sunday, April 5, just five have been aged 19 or under.

More than half (2,354) were 80 or older, and 1,771 were aged 60-79.

A total of 328 people aged 40-59 have died and the virus has claimed the lives of 36 people aged 20-39.

The vast majority of those who have died so far have either been aged over 70 or had an underlying health condition.
