Boris Johnson is set to unveil the Government’s road map out of lockdown today, setting out how the restrictions in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus will be gradually lifted.

It is already known that all schools in England are set to reopen on March 8, but below are the other changes which are expected to be made in the coming months.

All the changes are likely to be subject to a series of tests being met, including the rollout of vaccines going as planned, the number of Covid deaths and hospitalisations continuing to fall and no greater risk being posed by new variants.

Boris Johnson is set to outline the plans in parliament today before addressing the nation at 7pm but this is what is expected to happen, according to the BBC and Daily Telegraph.

MARCH

March 8: All schools to reopen, though it is thought some schools may stagger the return of different classes due to the demands of testing.

Care home visits will be allowed, though only a single visitor will be allowed at one time and they must be tested and wear PPE. Visitors will, however, be allowed to hold their loved ones’ hands.

March 29: Outdoor sport returns for children and adults, including golf, football and tennis.

Up to six people from two different households allowed to meet outside. This is expected to include meeting in private gardens.

People must no longer stay at home by law and will no longer be told to stay local but they will still be asked to work from home where possible and no overnight stays will be permitted.

APRIL

Shops expected to reopen.

Pubs and restaurants may be allowed to open for outdoor service only.

Universities may also be allowed to resume face-to-face teaching.

The likely date for these changes remains unclear but it may be linked to the Government’s April 15 target for all people aged over 50 to have been offered a Covid jab.

MAY

Pubs and restaurants may be allowed to welcome customers back inside.

Hairdressers could reopen.

JUNE

Hotels and B&Bs may be allowed to reopen with restrictions in place.

Different households could be permitted to meet indoors.
