Tesco’s larger stores will have their opening hours limited in the wake of high demand at supermarkets during the coronavirus outbreak.

From this evening (March 17) the store opening hours will be limited to 6am until 10pm in all of the larger stores operated by the supermarket giant.

This includes all Tesco Extra stores, Superstores and large Tesco Metros, the company has announced.

A few large stores with pharmacies will continue to stay open past 10pm. Which these will be is not confirmed.

Tesco has said that the changes will be temporary.

The news comes amid continued reports of ‘panic buying’ in supermarkets as shoppers ‘stockpile’ goods over fears that they will have to self-isolate.

Supermarkets across the country have placed limits on the number of products people are allowed to buy. Photos of empty shelves have been shared on social media.

Shoppers have been warned against panic buying and preventing other people from getting things they need.
