In a statement tweeted by Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, it states: “We are doing everything we can to protect patients, staff and the community against coronavirus. Please help us do this by complying with our visiting policy.”

Under the revised terms, the trust – which also runs Mansfield Community Hospital – says that each visitor is now only allowed two visitors, no visitors are allowed under the age of 16, and visitors should not attend if they have been unwell in the last 72-hours.

There is also a strict hand-washing policy, or use of hand gel, when entering and leaving wards.

Earlier this week a rumour emerged on social media that there was a case of the virus at the site, which the trust denied, saying such posts were causing ‘unnecessary panic’.
