Sharp rise in Mansfield Covid deaths as a further 16 fatalities are confirmed

The sharp rise in the number of fatalities takes the death toll at Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust to 473, as of 4pm on Wednesday.

The deaths took place between 31 January and 2 February.

Seven fatalities were recorded on Monday, with a further eight confirmed on Tuesday.

The number of deaths recorded on Tuesday at least matched the previous highest daily total in Mansfield.

Government data to 28 January shows eight deaths were also confirmed on both 20 and 24 January, but these took place across all settings and not just in hospitals.

Nationally, a further 630 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 74,249.

The youngest patient was just seven years old.

Their families have been informed.

As of Wednesday, 10,490487 people in the UK have received the first dose of the vaccine.
