Revealed: The 10 worst-hit areas in England for coronavirus infection rate

Sheffield’s coronavirus infection rate is one of the highest in the country, Public Health England data shows.

The Steel City had the ninth highest rate of infection per 100,000 of the population as of 4pm on Sunday – the latest available data.

It was one of three South Yorkshire areas in the top 10 affected places with an infection rate of 678.4 for every 100,000 people tested and 3,952 confirmed cases. Barnsley had the highest infection rate in the county at 768.4 with 1,884 confirmed cases, which is also the fourth highest in England.

Leicester’s infection rate is still the highest at 1,083.8 – 28 per cent higher than the second highest area.
