It is understood that Leas Park Junior school has a confirmed case in year 4 and a class bubble has been sent home until September 28.

Brunts Head Teacher Carl Atkin said: “When a confirmed case comes into the school we consult immediately with Public Health England we fully follow their guidance and advice although it is ultimately the decision of the school and the relevant parties are informed of what is happening next.”

He said in terms of precautions and the steps that are put in place Brunts Academy has gone above and beyond what the current DFE guidelines are including face masks in corridors and communal areas with staggered lunches and breaks and ensuring the students and staff adhere to the precautions that are on the full risk assessment on the academy’s website.

Mr Atkin added: “The reason why it is different for the Year 9 case compared to year 11 is purely die to the timings of each of those cases so we were able to be more precise with the number of students that have come into contact on the school site .

“The staff and the students are doing tremendously well in what are extremely unusual circumstances . The staff have worked incredibly hard to make the site as safe as it possibly can be and will continue to do so and make adjustments as and when required in consultation with public Health England.”
