Police attend Ashfield pub which flouted coronavirus rules

POLICE have swooped on a Sutton-in Ashfield pub accused of still operating against the government’s recent coronavirus social distancing measures.

On Monday Sutton-in-Ashfield Neighbourhood Policing Team said they attended the licensed premises on Mansfield Road.

Posting on Ashfield Police: Kirkby in Ashfield, Sutton in Ashfield and area Facebook page they said that despite “clear government advice,” the pub had “continued to operate.”

“We have attended and seized CCTV to assist with our investigation” as well as stock in order to prevent the premises from operating,” the post on Monday, at 5.38pm read.

The police reiterated the government’s recent coronavirus advice saying it was “very clear.”

People are asked to stay at home, only go outside for food, health reasons or work (but only if you cannot work from home), if you go out, stay 2 metres (6ft) away from other people at all times, wash your hands as soon as you get home and do not meet others, even friends or family.

The virus can be spread even if you don’t have symptoms. Ignoring the guidelines, increases your chances of catching the virus, but also increasing the chances of someone else catching it.

Ashfield’s MP Lee Anderson slammed drinkers and publicans flouting the government’s rules as “idiots and morons.”

In a Chad story earlier today, he said that people ignoring the government’s rules, aimed at curbing the spread of Covid 19 “were putting people at risk” and would be dealt with by the police. If I hear of anyone, I’ll report them.”
