One Nottinghamshire area has a rising infection rate as tier review date approaches

In Bassetlaw the latest infection rate is 256.3 per 100,000 people. This is for the seven days up to December 5 and means that there were 301 new cases reported in Bassetlaw that week.

The week before, in the seven days to November 28, the infection rate in Bassetlaw was 197.5, meaning there were 232 new cases.

Data for the most recent four days (December 6-9) has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

Of the 315 local areas in England, 142 have seen a rise in case rates, 171 have seen a fall, and two are unchanged.

On December 16, the first review into the tiers each area was placed in will take place.

This will determine whether Bassetlaw and the other areas in Nottinghamshire remain in Tier 3 or are moved down into a lower tier.

Last week, Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust, said that the number of coronavirus patients being admitted to hospital in Doncaster was ‘broadly stable.’

The tiers are determined by a number of factors. The coronavirus infection rate, the rate among over-60s and the speed at which cases are rising and falling will all be taken into account.

In Mansfield and Ashfield the infection rate has fallen in recent weeks.
