A total of 104 people have now died at Sherwood Forest Hospitals after contracting Covid-19, the latest figures have revealed.

Recorded deaths released by NHS England show that six more people have died while in the care of the trust - which runs King’s Mill Hospital, in Sutton, Mansfield Community Hospital and Newark Hospital.

The figures show that there was one death per day on May 2, 4 and 5, with a further three people dying after being diagnosed with the condition on May 3.

No deaths were recorded yesterday (May 6).

This brings the number of deaths in England to 22,423 since the first cases were diagnosed in March.

Elsewhere in Nottinghamshire, 221 people have now died at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust- which runs the Queen’s Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital.

Of the recent deaths, the vast majority were in the 80-plus age group, with the 60-79 age bracket still seeing a high number of casualties, and more than 40 deaths were recorded around the Midlands region yesterday.

Across the United Kingdom there have now been more than 30,000 confirmed casualties in hospitals, with separate figures released for carehomes showing thousands more.

In England there are now more than 200,000 confirmed cases, making it the highest in Europe - topping Italy at 29,684. Elsewhere, France has seen 25,809 deaths, Germany 7,277,

Spain 26,070, Belgium 8,415 and 5,288 in the Netherlands.

Elsewhere in the world, 74,817 people have died after contracting coronavirus in the USA, and 4,232 in Canada.
