More Covid patients die at Sherwood Hospitals Trust on deadliest day for UK since pandemic began

Another three Covid patients have sadly died at Sherwood Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, taking the death toll there to 314.

Across the UK, 1,325 people died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid - the highest daily total since the pandemic began – taking the UK death toll to 79,833.

The latest fatalities at Sherwood Hospitals – which runs Newark Hospital, Mansfield Community Hospital and King's Mill Hospital in Sutton – were announced by NHS England today, having been confirmed during the 24 hours up to 4pm yesterday, Thursday, January 7.Another 715 coronvirus deaths were recorded at hospitals across England, with patients aged between 30 and 101, and all except 23 having had known underlying health conditions.

The most deaths were recorded in London, where another 186 fatalities were confirmed, followed by the South East, with 136.

The latest deaths were announced on the day the Moderna vaccine became the third to be approved for use in the UK.
