Mansfield woman 'appalled' that 83-year-old mum hasn't been invited for covid vaccine yet

Donna Quigley, a former nurse of 30 years, said: “I emailed to MP Ben Bradley but have had no response yet. The news says the government and NHS are vaccinating all elderly over 80's, and now on to the over 70's.

"I’m appalled, my mother is 83, she’s not received a letter or call regarding her vaccine. How many more over 80's are forgotten? I feel that the government, NHS and GP's are leaving behind elderly people who would love to be able go out like the majority of the population who abuse the rules.

“I have not been off the phone going round in circles. Crazy.

"I rang NHS England, they said ring 119, they offered an appointment 50 miles away, I contacted my GP, they said contact NHS England again, they gave me a number, then I was told go on the NHS website, and it only came up with an appointment in Leicester, 36 miles away!

"It is not acceptable. I’ve left a message on the CCG patient experience team too. The government is failing the elderly. I worry that I’m putting my mum at risk when I come back from shopping.

"The elderly abide by the rules and are being forgotten. My mother and others should not be another statistic.”

Mansfield MP Ben Bradley told the Chad he would contact the constituent directly and offered advice to over 80s without a letter

He said: “The CCG and NHS Trust administering the vaccines have said that all over 80s should have a letter by the end of this week, and at the time of writing we are not yet at the end of the week, so there is still time for that to happen."

"Secondly, they have invited any over 80s who haven’t had their letter yet to book by phone or the online system. The phone number is 0115 8834640.

“We’re set to move to the next step of contacting the over 70s and the clinically vulnerable in the coming days."
