Mansfield District Council is appealing to the public to help by parking in a way that allows them, and emergencies vehicles, full access to the roads.

Councillor Andy Burgin, portfolio holder for environment and leisure, said: “Our crews are working incredibly hard in difficult circumstances to empty as many bins as possible during the current COVID-19 crisis.

“However, our crews do experience badly and inconsiderately parked vehicles, including those blocking junctions. This means crews have to return to try again at another time.

“As pressures on our waste and recycling services are expected to rise in the coming weeks, there may come a point where our crews are unable to return for any collections missed due to access problems.

“We would urge residents to help by doing all they can to park in a way that allows bin lorries (and any emergency vehicles) easy access. This includes parking on their driveways where possible.

“The crews have been overwhelmed with the level of public support – from people shouting ‘thank you’ from windows and doors, as well as children’s drawings and notes stuck on bin lids and lovely comments posted on social media.”
