The deaths in hospitals across the country took place between November 11, 2020 and January 15, 2021 with the time taken for positive results to be received among the potential factors in a delay between a death happening and being recorded.

NHS England said 439 patients were aged 80 or older and two people who lost their lives were aged between 20 and 39.

The data represents the deaths of hospital patients who had tested positive for Covid-19 in the previous 28 days and whose deaths were recorded in the latest reporting period.

Since April 28 2020, NHS England and NHS Improvement also started to report the number of patient deaths where there has been no Covid-19 positive test result but it is documented as a direct or underlying cause of death in the death certification process.

The figures for the latest reporting period show there were 41 such deaths in England.

According to Government data, a total of 158 patients across all settings in Mansfield have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 up to 4pm on January 16.

This equates to 144.5 deaths per 100,000 people since the pandemic began, with the highest daily total being 6 deaths on January 12, 2021.
