Mansfield council urge parents and children to avoid Halloween trick or treating this year due to Covid-19

Mansfield District Council are encouraging families to opt for test and trace instead of trick or treating this year by asking parents to avoid knocking on doors with their children this Halloween.

The local authority appealed to people on social media, urging them to opt for Covid-19 secure activities to celebrate the tradition such as following pumpkin trails, visiting scarecrow festivals and having a Halloween-themed movie night instead of knocking on several doors for sweets.

The council have created a dedicated section on their website for coronavirus safe activities for people to enjoy, away from the traditional trick or treating.

Mansfield Museum have posted instructions as to how children can make their own Halloween plant pots out of recycled plastic bottles on their Facebook page.

Residents in the Ladybrook area of the town are putting on a display of pumpkin decorations for families to look out for from October 24 to November 1.

Children are invited to make a list of all the sightings on the walk on their own trail sheet.

You can also make your own scarecrow as part of the local Scarecrow Trail which is designed bring cheer and community spirit to locals in the Quarry area.

Residents have the chance to win a £50 cash prize as part of a Halloween Movie Night Quiz at Forest Town Arena on October 31.
