Mansfield care home goes above and beyond during coronavirus pandemic

The majority of residents at Woodleigh Christian Care Home at Norfolk Drive in Mansfield are classed as ‘at risk’ of catching coronavirus so the home introduced new visiting restrictions to minimise the risk of infection.

Being unable to interact with your family and friends can be a very worrying, lonely time, so staff had the idea to make video messages for relatives, to let them know their loved ones were okay.

They shared a selection of them with us.

85-year-old Mavis said: “I’m here, I’m safe, I’m being well looked after. I miss a lot of things, because I like mixing with other people.

“But we have to get by, don’t we?”

Manager Sarah Milnes also had the idea to create care packages for residents’ families who were vulnerable, containing food and hygiene essentials.

The 32 year old from Clipstone has now distributed care packages to all relatives who need them, so is looking to continue the scheme in the wider community while ever donations make it possible.

“Our amazing staff have put together packs for our relatives to see them through this horrible time, please let us know if any elderly people in the local area need one, and we’ll deliver throughout the week.
