He said: “It's very frustrating to be in this situation where we've got additional restrictions. A few weeks ago we'd been making the case to avoid that, but the figures have changed massively in Mansfield since then. Hospitalisations are back to peak levels, cases are rising fast in over 60s, it's been impossible to argue for Mansfield to be treated differently now the numbers have changed so much.

“I'm very conscious that businesses and jobs that will be affected and will be making the case for as much help and support for sectors who will need it most, pubs and beauty businesses.Jason Zadrozny, leader of Ashfield District Council, and a Nottinghamshire County Councillor, said: “I'm very disappointed that the Government have moved Ashfield into Tier 3 with virtually no communication. Councils were only informed by Ministers on Tuesday, of the Goverment’s intentions and that is highly unfair on residents and businesses that rely on certainty.

"I am also totally dismayed and bewildered about the extra measure for our area around the closure of beauty salons and tattoo parlours etc, it seems to me to be incredibly unfair and there is no medical evidence to support this move.

"Ashfield Council will continue to do everything in its power to support residents and businesses through these tough times, now is for the Government to put its money where its mouth is and fund the major shortfall many businesses will face, otherwise we will see a jobs crisis next year the like of which most of us won't have seen in our lifetimes. It's no good talking, Ashfield needs action and genuine support Government support.”

Ashfield MP Lee Anderson said: “The latest figures are difficult to argue against. Our rates are rising. Tier 3 will bring challenges but I will do my best to make sure our area gets the support it deserves. Councils will get a support package from Government to help support businesses through this difficult time.”
